Dot NAME Domain Names

Set up in 2001, the Dot NAME generic top-level domain extension is the only one meant for personal web pages only. These domain names can consist of personal or fictional names, nicknames and/or other designations people are famous by. At the beginning, solely 3rd-level registrations were possible, so if you planned to secure john.doe.name, you were supposed to do that under .doe.name. In 2004, however, the registration procedures were loosened and 2nd-level registrations were also permitted. Already taken 3rd-level names remained functional.
